Yesterday we met to read some of our new books.   It was great fun as we tried out voices for different characters.   We wondered what kind of voice the Dragon would have in Dragon Detective Agency and in Custardly Wart we tried Pirate voices for Captain Cuttlefish, and strict, school mistress voices for Miss Scrubshaw.  Next week we’re going to read on from Chapter Three.   Make sure you’re in the right place for Thursday’s meeting everyone!

It was great to meet up again today after the break.   We heard all about some of the Myths and Legends people had been reading over the holidays.   Miss Lillie is going to run a blogging session next Thursday (12th Jan) so people can add comments on their latest reads.   In the meantime we’re all going to read the first two chapters of our new books so we’re ready to discuss them in a fortnight (on Thursday 19th Jan).   Mr Shepherd and Miss Lillie are also going to produce a pro forma to help with the reviews for The Iron Man and The Butterfly Lion.

On Thursday Miss Lillie and I gave you each a super, fantastic graphic novel version of a famous myth or legend.  What we would love to have from you is a ‘synopsis’ of the story when you have finished reading it.   What is a synopsis, Mr Shepherd?   I hear you ask.   Well, that is the first part of your challenge – find out what the word ‘synopsis’ means and then impress Miss Lillie and Mr Shepherd with your brilliance!

Today we talked about what is happening after Christmas with Book Club.   We’re going to finish our two current reads, then in January we will be discussing these and writing reviews on our blog.   After that we are going to begin the new books that Bloomsbury have kindly given us.   We are going to review these books for them to put on their blog.

It’s great to see everyone leaving comments and really thinking about the books we’re currently reading.   Today  we talked about the great use of verbs (‘lay back on rugs munching food’ and ‘daffodils speared up from the ground‘ were my favourites!)

Can you find some really exciting verbs in your books? Remember these are doing words!  If you can, please share them here and we can talk about how they help the stories.

Book Club started last week and we are reading ”The Butterfly Lion’ by Michael Morpurgo and ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes.   We have read the first few chapters and would love to hear what you think about the charcters and storyline.
